The gastronomic variety of Foz do Iguassu holds many pleasant surprises for the visiting tourist. The eclectic and ethnic culture of the Tri-National Border makes it one of the most cosmopolitan regions of the world, receiving a wide variety of culinary influences, and capriciously served to the delight of restaurant-goers.

There are more than 150 dining establishments enabling you to experiment with the most diverse of menus. The prices will vary, suiting your taste and budget.

At least a third of the restaurants prepare food to an international standard. You'll find some of the better and more refined restaurants located in the major hotels of the city.

The regional food that comes from indigenous origins has been influenced since the beginning of colonization and is continually perfected by the chefs brought in from the grand hotels. The results can be seen in the variety of the fish recipes. Fish such as the ‘dourado' caught principally in the local rivers.

In many restaurants you can experiment with ‘Pirá do Foz', a typical regional dish that's made in essence from the meat of the surubim and dourado fishes caught in the basin of the Paraná river.

Brazilian gastronomic diversity is present in a majority of the restaurants. There's no lack of options with dishes from Bahia, Minas Gerais, Sáo Paulo and the unmistakeable barbecue from Rio Grande do Sul as well as specialities from the north of the country. Feijoada is also available in many establishments including the more elegant hotel restaurants.

Crossing to the Argentinean border and to Puerto Iguazú the tourist will be able to try out the succulent ‘chorizo' beef or a traditional ‘parrilada'.

The gastronomic variety of the region is complemented by tasty international dishes such as German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Italian and Japanese offerings. There are no lack of options. It's just a case of being hungry and wanting to eat out.
